The Opportunity:

The Head of GCSE plays a vital role in shaping the academic and pastoral experience of students. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead and manage GCSE provision with a focus on student success, engagement, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interview prospective GCSE students and provide professional feedback to the Admissions team.
  • Ensure student records are accurate, complete, and up to date, including medical, pastoral, and safeguarding information.
  • Liaise with the Senior Leadership Team on curriculum matters and contribute to relevant committees.
  • Work closely with the SENCo to support students with additional needs.
  • Monitor student academic progress and prepare reports for parents, staff, and senior leaders.
  • Identify students requiring academic, pastoral, or behavioural interventions and coordinate support.
  • Oversee the delivery of RSE, PSHE, and SMSC provision for GCSE students.
  • Maintain oversight of the GCSE timetable and resolve operational issues as required.
  • Promote high standards of conduct, attendance, and engagement across the GCSE cohort.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence in dealing with students, parents, and staff
  • Strong pastoral instincts and sound professional judgement
  • Experience in secondary or GCSE education, pastoral leadership, or student management
  • Experience of safeguarding operations and policy compliance
  • Confidence in handling data and producing clear reports

Preferred

  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in leading and managing student cohorts
  • Experience with safeguarding training and procedures
  • Experience with curriculum development and delivery
