The Opportunity:

As the Head of Geography Department, you will lead and inspire a team of educators, shaping a dynamic and engaging Geography curriculum. You will play a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Geography department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a robust and innovative Geography curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and vision.
  • Support and mentor Geography teachers to enhance their professional development and teaching practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate cross-curricular themes and promote student engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure academic success.
  • Promote the school’s values and culture through active involvement in extra-curricular and community activities.
  • Work closely with parents and stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of the school’s educational goals.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Geography education and incorporate best practices into departmental planning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A BEd or Bachelor’s degree with PGCE / PGDE or equivalent.
  • Proven experience teaching Geography to KS4/KS5 or equivalent.
  • Strong leadership and management experience within a school setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and share best practice with colleagues.
  • A growth mindset and reflective approach to teaching and learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proven track record of outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission and values.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with international curricula such as IGCSE, GCSE, IB, A’ Level, or BTEC.
  • Experience with blended learning and the integration of technology in teaching.
  • Involvement in extra-curricular and community-based initiatives.
