The Opportunity:
As the Head of Geography Department, you will lead and inspire a team of educators, shaping a dynamic and engaging Geography curriculum. You will play a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Geography department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a robust and innovative Geography curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and vision.
- Support and mentor Geography teachers to enhance their professional development and teaching practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate cross-curricular themes and promote student engagement.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure academic success.
- Promote the school’s values and culture through active involvement in extra-curricular and community activities.
- Work closely with parents and stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of the school’s educational goals.
- Stay up to date with developments in Geography education and incorporate best practices into departmental planning.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A BEd or Bachelor’s degree with PGCE / PGDE or equivalent.
- Proven experience teaching Geography to KS4/KS5 or equivalent.
- Strong leadership and management experience within a school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and share best practice with colleagues.
- A growth mindset and reflective approach to teaching and learning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proven track record of outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
- Commitment to the school’s mission and values.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and leadership roles.
- Familiarity with international curricula such as IGCSE, GCSE, IB, A’ Level, or BTEC.
- Experience with blended learning and the integration of technology in teaching.
- Involvement in extra-curricular and community-based initiatives.
