The Opportunity:

As the Head of Geography, you will lead and inspire the Geography department across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and driving student progress within a dynamic and supportive school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Geography curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the school’s mastery approach and promotes student engagement.
  • Manage and support a team of Geography teachers, providing professional development and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, implementing strategies to improve outcomes and achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate Geography into broader learning experiences and enrichment opportunities.
  • Represent the Geography department at school-level meetings and contribute to the overall academic strategy.
  • Ensure inclusive and accessible teaching practices that support all students, including those with additional needs.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Geography education and incorporate innovative teaching methods into practice.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to support the school’s vision and strategic goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Geography at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, ideally in a similar role.
  • Strong track record in delivering high-quality teaching and improving student outcomes.
  • Inclusive and reflective teaching practice with a focus on student wellbeing and progress.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum development and mastery-based teaching approaches.
  • Familiarity with industry-recognised teacher training and professional development programmes.
  • Experience in leading a department and managing a team of teachers.
  • Strong understanding of Geography education and its role in broader academic and personal development.
