The Opportunity:

As the Head of Geography, you will lead the Geography department and drive the delivery of a high-quality, engaging curriculum that inspires student achievement and lifelong learning. This role is ideal for a passionate and visionary leader who wants to make a real impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Geography department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and innovative Geography curriculum aligned with the school’s vision and values.
  • Support and mentor Geography teachers to enhance their professional development and teaching practice.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring consistent achievement and improvement across all key stages.
  • Collaborate with other subject leaders to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to teaching and learning.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and high expectations, ensuring all students are challenged and supported.
  • Represent the Geography department at staff meetings, curriculum reviews, and school-wide events.
  • Contribute to the wider school leadership team and support initiatives that enhance student engagement and attainment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a relevant degree and QTS.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, ideally as a Head of Department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography, with a passion for teaching and inspiring students.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department through Ofsted inspections or similar processes.
  • Experience with cross-curricular and pastoral leadership.
  • Familiarity with digital and creative media technology in teaching.
  • Experience in leading professional development for staff.
