The Opportunity:
As the Head of Geography, you will lead a dynamic and enthusiastic department, inspiring students and teachers alike. You will play a key role in shaping the curriculum and fostering a love of Geography through innovative teaching and engaging fieldwork opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide inspirational leadership and direction for the Geography Department at GCSE and A Level.
- Support and mentor department members, including new staff and line-managed teachers.
- Oversee the development, review, and audit of schemes of work and departmental policies.
- Manage the setting, marking, and evaluation of examinations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor and evaluate student performance using data to drive improvement and progression.
- Stay up to date with developments in Geography education and promote staff professional development.
- Liaise with the Senior Leadership Team on curriculum and qualification matters.
- Chair departmental meetings and ensure effective communication and record-keeping.
- Organise and manage field trips, including compulsory GCSE and A Level visits.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in leading a Geography department at GCSE and A Level.
- Strong subject knowledge in Geography and a passion for teaching the subject.
- Experience in curriculum development and management.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage and mentor staff effectively.
- Familiarity with AQA and OCR specifications.
Preferred
- Experience in leading successful fieldwork programmes.
- Experience with extracurricular Geography activities and events.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in data analysis and using assessment data to inform teaching strategies.
