The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of History Department to lead and inspire a team of educators. This role is pivotal in shaping the curriculum and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in History. The successful candidate will have a significant impact on student achievement and departmental growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the History department, ensuring it meets the school’s academic and pastoral standards.
  • Develop and implement a high-quality History curriculum that aligns with national standards and the school’s values.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of History teachers, providing professional development and support.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to school improvement and strategic planning.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and the wider community.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Support the development of student leadership and extracurricular activities within the History department.
  • Work closely with other subject leads to promote a cohesive and inclusive school culture.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Department or in a similar leadership role within education.
  • Strong subject knowledge in History with a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • A relevant teaching qualification and current teaching status.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department through Ofsted inspections or other quality assurance processes.
  • Experience with inclusive education and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with the Sikh community and its cultural values.
  • Experience in promoting British values within an educational setting.
