The Opportunity:

As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting science education across Key Stage 3, 4, and Post-16/A Level. Your work will ensure that students have access to high-quality, well-maintained resources and a safe, stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials and equipment for science lessons in compliance with relevant legislation and safety standards.
  • Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, reporting any damage or malfunctions.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and manage chemical spillages in line with CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables, chemicals, and stationery, and order replacements as needed.
  • Assist with the production of teaching resources, including word processing, data logging, and spreadsheet use.
  • Support practical examinations and in-class demonstrations, ensuring all equipment is ready and safe to use.
  • Attend INSET training and undergo regular professional reviews as required.
  • Contribute to the school’s safety culture and be trained to assist in emergency situations.
  • Occasionally assist with events such as Prospective Parents Evenings and the Science Showcase.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Good qualifications in a relevant science subject.
  • Experience in a laboratory or technical role, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures.
  • Basic IT skills, including word processing and spreadsheet use.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Science Technician or in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with COSHH regulations and health and safety procedures.
  • Experience with administration, stock management, and practical examination preparation.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
