The Opportunity:

As the Head of Library, you will lead a dynamic team and oversee a modern, university-style library that supports Sixth Form and HE students, staff, and faculty. This role is crucial in promoting independent learning and research skills, ensuring the library remains a vital academic resource for the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop library services for Sixth Form and HE students, staff, and faculty.
  • Oversee the use of specialist library facilities, including group work areas, silent study spaces, and technology resources.
  • Ensure access to a wide range of physical and digital resources, including books, eBooks, journals, and online databases.
  • Provide one-to-one support and guidance on the use of online resources and research tools.
  • Coordinate library inductions and training sessions for HE students from partner universities.
  • Supervise a team of library staff, including a Librarian and part-time Library Assistants.
  • Maintain and update the web OPAC system for efficient access to library resources.
  • Promote the library as a key academic support service across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a library or academic support role.
  • Strong knowledge of library management systems and digital resources.
  • Experience in providing library services to both Sixth Form and Higher Education students.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop a small team.

Preferred

  • Experience with academic research skills development and training.
  • Familiarity with university-style library environments and services.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning support within a Sixth Form or Higher Education setting.
  • Experience with library induction and orientation programs.
