The Opportunity:

As Head of MFL, you will lead and shape a dynamic and ambitious Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. This role offers the chance to influence curriculum development, enrich student experiences, and build a collaborative, high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of French and Spanish across the school, from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5.
  • Deliver consistently high standards of teaching and learning through engaging lessons and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Foster a strong linguistic and cultural ethos that promotes student engagement and achievement.
  • Support and develop a collaborative, high-performing departmental team.
  • Inspire pupils through innovative teaching methods and a focus on pupil wellbeing.
  • Work closely with the Executive Head and Heads of School to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
  • Ensure effective assessment and monitoring of student progress in MFL subjects.
  • Promote the value of language learning through extracurricular activities and events.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience teaching French and Spanish to GCSE and at least one language to A Level.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong classroom practice and a track record of excellent teaching outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and strategic planning.
  • Background in leading departmental initiatives and staff development.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and technologies.
  • Experience in co-curricular programme development and delivery.
  • Passion for languages, cultural enrichment, and student engagement.
