The Opportunity:

As the Head of Modern Foreign Languages, you will lead and develop a successful department that delivers high-quality teaching and learning. Your role will be central to shaping strategies that ensure outstanding outcomes for students and support the school’s mission of preparing them for future success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department, fostering a collaborative and professional environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Promote the importance of language learning and its role in preparing students for a global future.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate cross-curricular themes and enhance the student experience.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and contribute to the wider school community.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, Ofsted standards, and curriculum requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, ideally within Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive improvement and deliver outstanding student progress.
  • Strong classroom practice and subject knowledge in Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Commitment to student welfare and a passion for education.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a department or team.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted standards and inspection processes.
  • Experience with teaching English as a Second Language or other language-related qualifications.
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities or community engagement.
