The Opportunity:

The Head of Modern Foreign Languages will lead a dedicated team to deliver high-quality language education across all age groups. This role is central to the school’s commitment to developing communication skills and global awareness, with a strong focus on French, German, and Spanish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of MFL teachers, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that supports the school’s 6Cs: compassion, curiosity, communication, courage, collaboration, and global citizenship.
  • Oversee the delivery of French, German, and Spanish at Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and IB Diploma levels.
  • Contribute to the school’s extracurricular programme and support the pastoral system as a tutor or support tutor.
  • Promote innovative teaching practices and professional development within the MFL Faculty.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align MFL initiatives with school-wide strategic goals.
  • Ensure the effective use of technology and resources in teaching and learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing feedback to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Degree-level education in a relevant subject.
  • Proven experience teaching Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, or Spanish) across Key Stages 3 to 5.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience within a teaching team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to innovative and collaborative teaching and learning approaches.
  • Ability to inspire both students and colleagues through professional development and curriculum innovation.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or faculty.
  • Experience teaching the IB Diploma (Group 2).
  • Experience in curriculum review or faculty development projects.
