The Opportunity:
The Head of Multilingualism plays a key role in shaping a school’s language strategy, ensuring students develop strong language skills while supporting their academic and personal growth. This position is central to embedding multilingualism across all aspects of the school’s educational approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the school’s multilingualism vision and language policy in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Enhance admissions procedures to assess language proficiency and support student success from the start.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to create an inclusive and supportive induction process for multilingual learners.
- Identify and remove barriers to language learning while setting high standards for language provision across the school.
- Audit educators’ knowledge and provide professional learning opportunities through the school’s Learning Hub.
- Support learning design for multilingual learners by working with Key Stage leaders and department heads.
- Implement a comprehensive language learning framework to track student progress and manage relevant data.
- Conduct regular Learning Visits to gather evidence of effective pedagogical practices and student engagement.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a recognised, language-related postgraduate teaching qualification.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate within a team, supporting a positive and proactive school culture.
- Ability to differentiate and adapt effectively for students with diverse linguistic backgrounds and stages of development.
- Skill in using data to track progress and develop personalised language learning pathways.
- CEFR B2 level proficiency in at least one additional language or willingness to learn one.
Preferred
- Experience in international education settings.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum or similar international curricula.
- Experience in developing and implementing language policies.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with quality assurance frameworks and continuous improvement processes.
