Summary:

Head of PE TLR1c required from September 2026. Lead a dynamic PE department in a thriving school.

A Church of England multi-ethnic comprehensive academy for girls, offering a rich educational experience from 11 to 16, with a mixed Sixth Form. The school is located in central London and is known for its strong pastoral care and commitment to student achievement.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of PE to lead a successful department and inspire students through high-quality teaching and sporting excellence. This role offers the opportunity to shape a dynamic PE programme and support students in achieving success in both academic and sporting pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the PE department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Deliver PE and Sports Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4, including GCSE PE and BTEC National Certificate courses.
  • Support students in competing in local, regional, and national sporting events.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and achievement.
  • Work closely with colleagues to promote a culture of excellence and inclusion within the school.
  • Manage departmental resources, timetables, and staff effectively.
  • Contribute to the school’s wider vision and values, including its commitment to diversity and safeguarding.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Physical Education.
  • Proven ability to teach and assess GCSE PE and Sports Science.
  • Strong subject knowledge in gymnastics, trampolining, or aerobics.
  • Experience in managing a PE department and leading a team of staff.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in delivering BTEC National Certificate courses.
  • Background in coaching or competitive sports.
  • Experience with pastoral care and safeguarding.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching and learning approaches.
