The Opportunity:

As Head of Physical Education, you will lead a dynamic and experienced department, driving excellence in teaching, student outcomes, and extra-curricular provision. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the PE department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Deliver and assess PE and sport qualifications, including GCSE, BTEC, and A Level Physical Education.
  • Oversee the planning, organisation, and management of extra-curricular activities, fixtures, and competitions.
  • Promote student well-being through physical education and sport, encouraging participation and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to enhance the school’s sporting and physical education provision.
  • Support the school’s vision for developing Happy and Successful Citizens through PE.
  • Ensure effective curriculum planning, assessment, and quality assurance within the department.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to support the department’s goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a PE department and improving student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach PE up to A Level.
  • Experience in evaluating and developing the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team of teachers and support staff.
  • Experience in organising fixtures, competitions, and trips.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum leadership and quality assurance.
  • Background in extra-curricular programme development.
  • Leadership experience in a school setting.
  • Passion for sport, exercise, and student well-being.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support systems.
