The Opportunity:

As the Head of Physics, you will lead a forward-thinking faculty dedicated to delivering outstanding results at both GCSE and A Level. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of physics education and inspire the next generation of scientists and thinkers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Physics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student achievement and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to promote a culture of excellence and professional development.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the Physics curriculum, including enrichment activities and extra-curricular opportunities.
  • Support the professional growth of Physics teachers through mentoring and CPD.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Represent the department at faculty and whole-school meetings.
  • Ensure the department maintains a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant subject knowledge in Physics.
  • Proven leadership experience within a school or college setting.
  • Strong track record of achieving high academic results in Physics.
  • Experience in curriculum development and departmental management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department within a large, successful school.
  • Knowledge of current trends and innovations in science education.
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections and school improvement planning.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting staff development.
  • Familiarity with using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
