The Opportunity:

A Head of Psychology is needed to lead and inspire a dynamic department. This role offers the chance to shape the future of Psychology education and support the school's mission of Excellence For All. The successful candidate will be a key player in driving academic success and staff development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Psychology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning
  • Implement the Department’s Improvement Plan in line with the school’s vision and values
  • Deliver Quality First Teaching and support colleagues in developing their practice
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the department
  • Provide guidance and support to students, ensuring they achieve their full potential
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to school-wide initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and outcomes, using data to inform teaching strategies
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to align departmental goals with school objectives

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching Psychology at KS5 level
  • Strong subject knowledge and up-to-date understanding of the Psychology curriculum
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to Quality First Teaching and student success
  • Experience in developing and delivering departmental improvement plans

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team
  • Familiarity with the Outstanding Teacher Programme and NPQs
  • Background in staff development and mentoring
  • Experience with curriculum planning and cross-school collaboration
  • Knowledge of cognitive science and evidence-informed teaching strategies
