The Opportunity:
The Head of Safeguarding is a strategic and senior role, responsible for leading safeguarding and child protection across the school. This is a pivotal position offering the opportunity to shape policies, provide expert guidance, and ensure the welfare and safety of all pupils, from junior school to sixth form.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the school’s safeguarding strategy, ensuring compliance with KCSIE and National Minimum Standards for Boarding.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on safeguarding matters and manage complex cases.
- Oversee the work of Deputy DSLs and collaborate with pastoral leaders to maintain a strong safeguarding culture.
- Deliver and coordinate safeguarding training for staff, parents, and governors.
- Liaise with external agencies, including local authorities and child protection services.
- Ensure all safeguarding systems, including online safety protocols, are up to date and effectively implemented.
- Work closely with governors and attend external safeguarding forums to stay informed and share best practices.
- Promote and maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Significant experience in safeguarding and child protection, preferably in an educational setting.
- Proven ability to lead and implement whole-school safeguarding strategies.
- Strong knowledge of KCSIE and related statutory guidance.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with external agencies and senior stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience in a senior leadership or management role.
- Familiarity with boarding school environments and online safety protocols.
- Experience in training and developing staff on safeguarding matters.
