The Opportunity:

As Head of Science, you will lead a forward-thinking department across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring high-quality teaching and inspiring a passion for science in students. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape curriculum delivery and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and drive high standards of teaching and learning in Science.
  • Lead curriculum planning, assessment design, and implementation to ensure an engaging and ambitious Science curriculum.
  • Monitor and analyse student performance data to inform departmental improvements and raise attainment.
  • Coach and support teaching staff to promote consistent, high-quality classroom practice and professional development.
  • Oversee practical science management, including laboratory safety, resources, and technician support.
  • Lead departmental quality assurance processes, including lesson visits and curriculum reviews.
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership initiatives and support the wider school vision.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive culture that inspires student engagement and achievement in Science.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in Science teaching with strong subject knowledge.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving student outcomes and driving academic success.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and departmental leadership.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
  • Experience in leading professional learning and development initiatives.
  • Background in pastoral care or student support.
