The Opportunity:
As Head of Science, you will lead a forward-thinking department across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring high-quality teaching and inspiring a passion for science in students. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape curriculum delivery and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and drive high standards of teaching and learning in Science.
- Lead curriculum planning, assessment design, and implementation to ensure an engaging and ambitious Science curriculum.
- Monitor and analyse student performance data to inform departmental improvements and raise attainment.
- Coach and support teaching staff to promote consistent, high-quality classroom practice and professional development.
- Oversee practical science management, including laboratory safety, resources, and technician support.
- Lead departmental quality assurance processes, including lesson visits and curriculum reviews.
- Contribute to whole-school leadership initiatives and support the wider school vision.
- Promote a positive, inclusive culture that inspires student engagement and achievement in Science.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in Science teaching with strong subject knowledge.
- Demonstrated track record of improving student outcomes and driving academic success.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and departmental leadership.
- Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
- Experience in leading professional learning and development initiatives.
- Background in pastoral care or student support.
