The Opportunity:
As the Head of Science, you will lead and manage the Science and DT department, ensuring that subjects are delivered in an engaging and challenging way. This role offers the chance to inspire and develop students, while shaping a dynamic and innovative learning environment at a school known for its outstanding academic achievements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Science and DT department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a vision for Science and STEM education that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
- Monitor and support the performance of teaching staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Foster enthusiasm for Science and STEM among students and across the school community.
- Ensure that all Science and DT lessons are delivered in well-equipped laboratories with the latest technology.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate Science and STEM into the wider curriculum.
- Promote student achievement and engagement through innovative teaching practices and extracurricular activities.
- Work closely with the Headmistress and senior leadership team to support the strategic direction of the school.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a senior teaching or departmental role.
- Strong subject knowledge in Science and DT, with experience in curriculum development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and engage students in Science and STEM subjects.
- Experience in a school environment with a commitment to high academic standards.
Preferred
- Experience in a boarding school or independent school setting.
- Familiarity with STEM initiatives and extracurricular programs.
- Experience with teaching at both GCSE and A-level.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a reduced teaching timetable.
