The Opportunity:

As Head of Science, you will lead and inspire a dynamic Science faculty, ensuring a high-quality learning experience that meets both internal and external standards. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and effective leader to drive standards of attainment and achievement in Science, while supporting and developing staff to deliver consistently excellent teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science faculty, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a Science curriculum that meets both internal and external standards and supports student achievement.
  • Support and mentor Science staff, providing professional development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and attainment, ensuring consistent high standards across the department.
  • Collaborate with other departments to contribute strategically to whole-school improvement and academic success.
  • Engage with parents and the wider community to promote Science education and support student learning.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Science education and incorporate innovative teaching methods and resources.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of Science equipment and facilities in line with health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a Science department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Science, with the ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a track record of successful staff development.
  • Experience in curriculum development and the ability to implement changes effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school with a strong focus on student outcomes and personal development.
  • Experience working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational structure.
  • Experience with leading whole-school improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with teacher training and professional development programs.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and develop a team.
