The Opportunity:

As Head of Year, you will lead the pastoral care and academic monitoring of a designated year group, providing incisive intervention and support to help students overcome barriers to learning. This role is ideal for someone passionate about student wellbeing and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the academic progress, wellbeing, behaviour, and attendance of students within the year group, implementing effective support and intervention strategies.
  • Promote high standards of attendance, punctuality, and behaviour across the year group.
  • Work closely with teaching and support staff to identify barriers to learning and coordinate targeted interventions.
  • Build positive relationships with parents/carers and external agencies to support student success.
  • Champion high standards of behaviour, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Model exceptional standards and contribute to the caring and ambitious ethos of the school.
  • Establish positive professional relationships with staff, students, and external partners.
  • Coordinate and lead pastoral care initiatives that support student development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • A commitment to student wellbeing and academic achievement.
  • Experience in supporting students with barriers to learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching and support staff.

Preferred

  • Experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience in leading a year group or similar role.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support initiatives.
  • Familiarity with educational frameworks and policies.
