Summary:

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) role with a focus on supporting students with special educational needs.

The Opportunity:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities to thrive academically and emotionally. This is a dynamic, relationship-focused role that requires calm leadership, strong communication skills, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils in class to improve engagement, behaviour, and progress
  • Deliver learning activities and interventions aligned with teacher planning
  • Lead whole-class learning sessions when required
  • Run a half-termly supervision group to support the wider TA team
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, school policies, and the staff code of conduct
  • Promote positive behaviour and build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Collaborate with teachers and colleagues to ensure consistent and effective support
  • Participate in professional development and reflective practice sessions

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with complex needs, including SEND and social and emotional needs
  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 or Level 5
  • Confidence leading learning, supporting engagement and behaviour, and working calmly under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with pupils and colleagues

Preferred

  • Experience in trauma-informed practice or working with students with autism (ASD)
  • Experience in delivering structured learning interventions
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies
  • Experience in a school or educational setting with a focus on special needs
