The Opportunity:
We are seeking an Interim Director of Music to provide short-term leadership from late April/early May until the end of the Summer Term 2026. This role offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic music department, oversee a wide range of performances and co-curricular activities, and contribute to the long-term development of the school’s music programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Music Department.
- Deliver academic music and musical performance across all age groups (4–18).
- Oversee the professional development of a team of full-time and part-time staff, including a Music Technician and Visiting Music Teachers.
- Ensure the smooth running of a diverse co-curricular programme, including recitals, assemblies, and musical theatre productions.
- Promote and enhance the school’s music culture through engagement with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Work closely with Heads of Department and other senior leaders to integrate music into the broader school life.
- Support students in exploring a wide range of musical genres and performance opportunities.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality music education at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Relevant degree and proven experience in music education.
- Strong teaching ability at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a music department.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in choral or orchestral music, or a strong interest in musical theatre.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and build strong relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
Preferred
- Accompanying experience to diploma level.
- Experience in leading and conducting choirs or orchestras.
- Familiarity with the Eduqas (WJEC) exam board for Music.
- Experience in managing a large and diverse team of music staff and visiting teachers.
