The Opportunity:

The Head of Music will lead and inspire the Music Department, driving strategic growth and raising the profile of music across the school. This role combines creative leadership with the responsibility of delivering high-quality music education and performance opportunities for students of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Music Department, ensuring it remains dynamic and impactful.
  • Deliver high-quality music education across Key Stages 3 to 5, maintaining high standards in teaching and assessment.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Drama and other departments to deliver creative and liturgical projects.
  • Organize and lead concerts, performances, and musical events throughout the academic year.
  • Act as a Form Teacher, providing strong pastoral care and contributing to the overall school community.
  • Promote and support the uptake of music at GCSE and beyond.
  • Model professionalism, energy, and commitment in line with the school's values.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school through extracurricular and pastoral activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a music department in a school setting.
  • Strong teaching experience across Key Stages 3 to 5.
  • Excellent classroom management and assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead performances and events.
  • Commitment to pastoral care and student well-being.
  • A passion for music and a commitment to its promotion within the school.

Preferred

  • Experience in collaborative creative projects with drama or other departments.
  • Background in liturgical music or church music.
  • Experience in developing new initiatives to raise the profile of music.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Experience in a Catholic or faith-based educational setting.
