The Opportunity:
As a Key Stage 1 Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting young learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of children, helping them develop skills, confidence and a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to the needs of pupils aged 4-11
- Support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and challenging behaviours through positive strategies and individualised approaches
- Communicate effectively with non-verbal pupils using tools such as Makaton, PECs and PODD
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including psychologists and therapy professionals, to support pupil development
- Implement autism-specific strategies such as TEACCH and Attention Autism in daily practice
- Create a structured and motivating learning environment that encourages participation and achievement
- Work flexibly across different age groups and adapt lessons to meet diverse learning needs
- Promote the emotional, social and academic growth of pupils through consistent and supportive teaching
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Previous experience working with pupils who are autistic and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
- Experience supporting non-verbal pupils using communication tools such as PECs and PODD
- Ability to manage and understand challenging behaviour
- Flexibility to work with pupils aged 4-11
- Strong understanding of autism strategies and curriculum development
Preferred
- Experience with TEACCH and Attention Autism methods
- Background in delivering bespoke and accessible learning experiences
- Commitment to continuous professional development and collaboration with colleagues
