The Opportunity:

As a Key Stage 1 Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting young learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of children, helping them develop skills, confidence and a love of learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to the needs of pupils aged 4-11
  • Support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and challenging behaviours through positive strategies and individualised approaches
  • Communicate effectively with non-verbal pupils using tools such as Makaton, PECs and PODD
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including psychologists and therapy professionals, to support pupil development
  • Implement autism-specific strategies such as TEACCH and Attention Autism in daily practice
  • Create a structured and motivating learning environment that encourages participation and achievement
  • Work flexibly across different age groups and adapt lessons to meet diverse learning needs
  • Promote the emotional, social and academic growth of pupils through consistent and supportive teaching

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Previous experience working with pupils who are autistic and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils using communication tools such as PECs and PODD
  • Ability to manage and understand challenging behaviour
  • Flexibility to work with pupils aged 4-11
  • Strong understanding of autism strategies and curriculum development

Preferred

  • Experience with TEACCH and Attention Autism methods
  • Background in delivering bespoke and accessible learning experiences
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and collaboration with colleagues
