Summary:

Key Stage 2 Teacher needed at a school with a focus on Autistic Spectrum Disorder and SEMH support.

As a Key Stage 2 Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will help them develop their abilities, build confidence, and achieve their personal and educational goals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to the needs of pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils in managing their behaviour through understanding the function of behaviour and applying positive strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with non-verbal pupils using tools such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, therapists, and teaching assistants.
  • Develop and implement individualised learning plans that reflect the unique needs of each pupil.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and enjoyment in learning.
  • Work flexibly with pupils aged 4 to 11 and adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles.
  • Use a range of strategies such as TEACCH and Attention Autism to support pupils in their learning and communication.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status and relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience working with pupils who are autistic and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  • Ability to communicate with non-verbal pupils using tools such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD.
  • Experience in managing and supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • Flexibility to work with pupils across a wide age range (4-11 years).
  • Ability to design and deliver bespoke, accessible lessons that meet the needs of individual pupils.

Preferred

  • Experience with autism strategies such as TEACCH and Attention Autism.
  • Experience in developing individualised learning plans.
  • Previous experience in a multi-disciplinary school setting.
