The Opportunity:

As a Lead Practitioner in English, you will play a key role in driving improvement in English standards across Key Stage 3. This is an exciting opportunity to lead curriculum development, support teaching staff, and implement digital learning strategies that enhance student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a high-quality English curriculum across Key Stage 3
  • Support and lead teaching staff and TAs to improve student progress in reading and writing
  • Collaborate with the KS2 phase leader to ensure curriculum coherence and smooth transitions
  • Integrate digital platforms into teaching and learning to enhance engagement and outcomes
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance to inform teaching strategies
  • Provide professional development and mentorship to department staff
  • Stay up to date with current educational trends and best practices in English teaching
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and strategic priorities

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • 5+ GCSEs including English and Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience as a successful classroom practitioner
  • Strong knowledge of KS2-KS3 curriculum progression and transition requirements

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team
  • Expertise in using digital platforms to enhance teaching and learning
  • Experience with Year 8 reading assessments and curriculum development
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation in English education
