The Opportunity:

As a Lead Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the science department by managing laboratory resources, ensuring health and safety compliance, and leading a team of technicians. This position is ideal for someone passionate about science education and committed to delivering high-quality practical learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, and trial practical experiments for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons.
  • Manage laboratory, prep room, and storage areas to ensure they are clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Oversee the safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in line with CLEAPSS and COSHH guidelines.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of risk assessments for practical work.
  • Line-manage and support senior laboratory technicians, providing training and technical expertise.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of chemicals, equipment, and consumables.
  • Coordinate workloads, ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated, and monitor stock levels within budget.
  • Support the organisation of science enrichment activities, including STEM clubs and competitions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A Levels, or equivalent in Science.
  • Working knowledge of basic scientific principles.
  • Competency with MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Understanding of science laboratory safe practices and procedures.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Willingness to be trained in relevant skills.

Preferred

  • Experience of working in schools.
  • Experience as a science technician.
  • Degree or equivalent in a Chemistry-related field.
