The Opportunity:
As a Senior Science Technician - Biology Specialist, you will provide essential technical support to teaching staff and students, ensuring the successful delivery of practical science lessons across all key stages. This role is ideal for someone passionate about science education and dedicated to fostering a safe, engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up practical equipment and materials for Biology lessons at KS3, KS4, and KS5.
- Assist in the assembly, testing, and maintenance of scientific apparatus and materials.
- Conduct demonstrations and support teaching staff with the setup and operation of experiments.
- Ensure the safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Maintain and organize biology equipment in the preparation room and laboratory areas.
- Support the Lead Science Technician in managing stock levels and ordering supplies.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with CLEAPSS regulations.
- Provide technical advice to students and staff on the safe use of equipment and materials.
- Assist in the development and testing of new resources and experiments for science lessons.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a science technician role, preferably within a school or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of Biology and practical science experiments at KS3, KS4, and KS5 levels.
- Ability to carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Experience in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of scientific equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Preferred
- Experience with data logging equipment and computer software used in science education.
- Knowledge of CLEAPSS regulations and current best practices in science safety.
- Experience in supporting the planning and delivery of new science resources and experiments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with teaching staff and students.
