The Opportunity:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to pupils with additional needs, ensuring they have a positive and enriching experience at school. You will work closely with teaching staff to create a safe, stimulating environment that encourages learning and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with additional needs in lessons and interventions, ensuring they remain focused and on task.
  • Assist in sensory regulation to enable a calm and ready state for learning.
  • Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, promoting safe and calm social interaction.
  • Liaise with parents regularly to provide updates on pupil progress and challenges.
  • Maintain detailed records of pupil successes and challenges in the school’s information management system.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and provide emotional and academic support.
  • Comply with safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
  • Attend assemblies, chapel services, and other school events as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Teaching Assistant qualification or graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience supporting pre-school and/or primary-aged pupils with additional needs.
  • Understanding of how to meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Excellent communication, listening, and written skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and current good practice for pre-school and primary-aged pupils.

Preferred

  • Experience with therapeutic techniques and strategies shared by external professionals (e.g., SaLT & OT).
  • Familiarity with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy.
  • Knowledge of child development stages and strategies such as zones of regulation.
  • Experience working with pupils with ARFID or other specific needs.
