The Opportunity:
As a Literacy Lead Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s literacy strategy and delivering high-quality teaching across Key Stages 2 and 3. You will lead phonics and literacy initiatives, support students with complex needs, and contribute to the development of an inclusive curriculum that ensures all learners can achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality literacy teaching across Key Stages 2 and 3, with input into Key Stage 4.
- Lead the development and implementation of the school’s phonics and literacy strategy.
- Support the delivery of SEN provision, working closely with the SENCO and therapy team.
- Contribute to EHCP processes and ensure Individual Education Plans inform effective teaching.
- Monitor pupil progress using data to set targets and implement interventions.
- Plan and deliver a stimulating and inclusive curriculum with strong progression and outcomes.
- Build positive relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification.
- Strong knowledge of literacy teaching, phonics, and curriculum development.
- Deep understanding of SEN, including the Code of Practice and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Ability to inspire and support students with a wide range of needs.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solution-focused approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and high standards of teaching.
- Valid driving licence.
Preferred
- Experience in leading literacy initiatives or curriculum development.
- Experience working with students with SEMH or complex needs.
- Experience in delivering life-skills or pastoral support programmes.
- Experience with whole-school reading policies or literacy strategies.
