The Opportunity:

As a Literacy Subject Leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the English and Literacy curriculum, ensuring it meets the unique needs of students. You will lead, coordinate, and quality assure the subject area, delivering engaging and effective learning experiences that support student progress and achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of the Literacy/English curriculum across the school.
  • Develop and implement teaching strategies that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support staff to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues in the development of effective teaching practices and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to inform teaching and learning strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families and the school community.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Curriculum framework and relevant educational standards.
  • Prepare students for assessments and examinations, ensuring they are well supported throughout the process.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teaching Status.
  • Proven experience in leading and quality assuring the Literacy/English curriculum.
  • Experience of working with students with a range of learning needs, including those on the autistic spectrum.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Practical knowledge of experiential and therapeutic education strategies.
  • Experience of preparing students for examinations and assessments.
  • Familiarity with the National Curriculum framework.

Preferred

  • Experience of working in a special educational needs setting.
  • Experience of developing and delivering individualised education programmes.
  • Experience of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and mentoring.
  • Experience of working in a small class setting with high levels of individual support.
  • Experience of working within a Catholic educational environment.
