The Opportunity:

As a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. This position offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of students while working within a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop high-quality SEN provision across the school.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Support teaching staff in understanding and addressing the needs of students with special educational needs.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and other schools to ensure continuity of provision and support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN support delivered by teachers and teaching assistants.
  • Maintain accurate records, policies, and the SEND register of students.
  • Deliver timely responses to commissioning partners and ensure compliance with statutory expectations.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff through meetings and written materials.
  • Attend and lead annual review meetings and contribute to the appraisal and professional development of staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs and disabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and implementing SEN policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) and Personalised Adaptive Provision Plans (PAPPs).
  • Experience in leading INSET sessions on SEND-related topics.
  • Knowledge of vocational skills programs such as AQA and ASDAN.
