The Opportunity:

As a Literacy Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students through literacy and reading interventions. You will contribute to the success of the Accelerated Reader programme and help foster a love of reading among secondary students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students through small group and one-to-one literacy and EAL interventions.
  • Manage and maintain the library and Accelerated Reader programme effectively.
  • Develop and deliver engaging literacy activities that promote student progress.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Stay up to date with current literature and resources suitable for secondary students.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports all students.
  • Plan and organize work efficiently to meet deadlines and maintain high standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience in delivering literacy support and interventions.
  • Passion for reading and knowledge of relevant books for secondary students.
  • Commitment to student wellbeing and progress.

Preferred

  • Experience with EAL support strategies.
  • Knowledge of literacy programmes such as Accelerated Reader.
  • Experience in working with students with additional needs.
  • Background in education or teaching support roles.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
