The Opportunity:

As a Lunchtime Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of students during lunchtimes. This is a part-time, term-time only position offering the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with complex learning and physical needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with personal care needs, including toileting, changing nappies/pads, and assisting with clothing when required.
  • Assist pupils with eating and feeding during lunchtimes.
  • Supervise and engage pupils in play activities in the playgrounds.
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Lunchtime Supervisors and Class Teachers to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Physically support pupils, including those using special seating, wheelchairs, or walking aids.
  • Implement care and self-care routines in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Attend and complete mandatory training, including safeguarding, manual handling, and positioning.
  • Ensure the well-being and emotional regulation of students during lunchtimes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with complex learning and physical needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and supportively as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to support pupils in various seating and mobility aids.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a special educational needs setting.
  • Knowledge of self-regulation and emotional well-being strategies.
  • Experience with manual handling and positioning techniques.
  • Understanding of Education Health and Care Plans.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on NJC Pay Scale, Grade 1-3, points 2-6.
  • Part-time, term-time only contract (38 weeks) with 7.5 hours per week.
  • Full induction and ongoing training provided, including safeguarding and manual handling.
