The Opportunity:

As a Teacher of English, you will deliver high-quality lessons that inspire a lifelong love of literature and language. You will also contribute to a vibrant extracurricular programme that enhances students’ learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and innovative lessons to students across all key stages.
  • Support students in developing strong literacy skills and a deep appreciation for literature.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of a dynamic extracurricular programme, including poetry events, debating and magazine clubs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the department’s academic and cultural provision.
  • Participate in professional development and school initiatives to support student achievement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress effectively, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student well-being and engagement.
  • Engage with the wider school community through events and outreach activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience of teaching English up to KS5.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver effective lessons.
  • Excellent behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.
  • Experience in creating and delivering engaging, inclusive learning experiences.
  • Commitment to student well-being and pastoral care.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading or contributing to extracurricular activities related to English and literature.
  • Familiarity with the GDST and its values and educational approach.
  • Experience with teaching English as a Second Language or working with diverse student groups.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the department’s curriculum and resources.
