The Opportunity:
As a Medical Officer, you will be the lead first aider, ensuring the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors. You will manage medical records, administer medication, and support students with specific medical needs. This is a vital role in maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first point of contact for all student medical needs and ensure compliance with school policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and incident reports.
- Administer first aid to students, staff, and visitors, and summon emergency services when necessary.
- Ensure secure storage and correct administration of medication.
- Coordinate the ordering, maintenance, and distribution of medical supplies.
- Support daily intimate care routines for students with medical conditions.
- Manage the hygiene suite and medical room to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Liaise with senior leadership, medical professionals, and parents to develop and implement health care plans.
- Lead the completion of health risk assessments and ensure relevant staff are informed.
- Work with the EVC Coordinator to ensure medical needs are considered for all academy trips.
- Support the setup and management of PEEPs for students with specific needs.
- Coordinate student immunisations and health checks with the NHS.
- Organise and manage first aid training for staff and update associated records.
- Undergo training to use specialist medical equipment such as EpiPens.
- Support safeguarding and attendance teams to ensure students with medical conditions can attend school effectively.
- Discuss medical requirements with prospective parents and assist in creating health care plans.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Valid first aid and emergency care qualifications.
- Experience in managing medical records and health care plans.
- Ability to administer medication in line with school policies.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Experience working in an educational setting with children.
Preferred
- Experience with intimate care and personal care routines.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in schools.
- Experience in coordinating medical training for staff.
- Familiarity with medical equipment such as EpiPens.
- Experience in developing and managing PEEPs and health care plans.
