The Opportunity:

As a Reading Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with literacy needs and helping them reach their full potential. You will work closely with teachers and students to deliver targeted interventions and provide individualized support that makes a real difference in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with literacy needs, including those with special educational needs.
  • Deliver targeted reading interventions to help students improve their reading skills and achieve academic progress.
  • Work with teachers to develop and implement strategies that support student independence and engagement in learning.
  • Build positive relationships with students to encourage self-esteem and motivation.
  • Support the use of ICT and other resources in teaching and learning activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and provide feedback to teachers and students as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of learning materials and resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and intervention outcomes.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with literacy needs or special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to student welfare and safety.
  • Basic knowledge of literacy teaching strategies and interventions.

Preferred

  • Experience in education or teaching support roles.
  • Familiarity with special educational needs and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience with curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Confidence in using digital tools and ICT in the classroom.
  • Experience in providing one-to-one or small-group support.
