The Opportunity:

As a Safeguarding Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and welfare of all pupils. You will work closely with senior safeguarding leads to implement robust and child-centred safeguarding practices. This is a vital role that directly impacts the lives of students and contributes to a culture of care and protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support safeguarding referrals to external agencies including children’s social care, police, and Channel where appropriate
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on safeguarding and child protection matters
  • Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records and child protection files
  • Liaise with external agencies and support inter-agency working
  • Promote engagement with parents and carers
  • Support vulnerable pupils, including those with SEND, mental health needs, or social worker involvement
  • Contribute to safeguarding reports and monitor attendance, engagement, and welfare
  • Support staff induction and ongoing safeguarding awareness
  • Complete relevant safeguarding, Prevent, and FGM training
  • Undertake home visits where required and support the wider school community

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/5 or above) or equivalent
  • Strong communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
  • Demonstrated integrity, empathy, and professionalism
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team
  • Confidence using IT systems and managing confidential information
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar safeguarding, pastoral, or people-focused role
  • Experience in an education setting
