Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire a team of specialist history teachers, fostering a culture of professional collaboration and excellence.
- Develop and oversee the history curriculum across Key Stages 3–5, ensuring it is intellectually challenging and globally minded.
- Champion innovative teaching practices and evidence-informed strategies to enhance pupil outcomes and engagement.
- Manage and expand the department’s co-curricular programme, including trips, conferences, and academic societies.
- Promote a culture of academic excellence, with a focus on preparing students for top universities and future success.
- Support the school’s mission to develop Fearless Learners through strategic leadership and a clear educational vision.
- Ensure consistent high standards of teaching and learning, with a focus on pupil progress and achievement.
- Contribute to the broader life of the school through involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a school or college history department.
- Strong track record of academic achievement and curriculum development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in driving innovation and high-quality teaching practices.
- Commitment to safeguarding and the well-being of students.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a department with a strong co-curricular programme.
- Background in working at a school with a high academic profile.
- Familiarity with the UK National Curriculum and A Level specifications.
- Experience in promoting super-curricular engagement through initiatives such as conferences and journals.
