The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of specialist history teachers, fostering a culture of professional collaboration and excellence.
  • Develop and oversee the history curriculum across Key Stages 3–5, ensuring it is intellectually challenging and globally minded.
  • Champion innovative teaching practices and evidence-informed strategies to enhance pupil outcomes and engagement.
  • Manage and expand the department’s co-curricular programme, including trips, conferences, and academic societies.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, with a focus on preparing students for top universities and future success.
  • Support the school’s mission to develop Fearless Learners through strategic leadership and a clear educational vision.
  • Ensure consistent high standards of teaching and learning, with a focus on pupil progress and achievement.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school through involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school or college history department.
  • Strong track record of academic achievement and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in driving innovation and high-quality teaching practices.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the well-being of students.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department with a strong co-curricular programme.
  • Background in working at a school with a high academic profile.
  • Familiarity with the UK National Curriculum and A Level specifications.
  • Experience in promoting super-curricular engagement through initiatives such as conferences and journals.
