The Opportunity:

As a Pupil Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing pastoral and holistic support to pupils, ensuring a positive and purposeful learning environment. This is a key role in supporting student behaviour, learning, and well-being within the school's Alternative Referral Centre (ARC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a purposeful climate for learning within the ARC to support curriculum delivery and address learning gaps.
  • Conduct mentoring conversations with pupils to help them meet individual behaviour and conduct targets.
  • Foster positive relationships and maintain a safe and orderly environment within the ARC and Internal Suspension.
  • Uphold the highest standards of behaviour and attitudes to learning in the ARC and Internal Suspension.
  • Hold pupils to account for their behaviour, attitude, and learning within the ARC and Internal Suspension.
  • Ensure the physical environment of the ARC and Internal Suspension is tidy, purposeful, and supportive of school systems.
  • Deliver Internal Suspension Provision as the school’s highest sanction before external suspension.
  • Ensure pupils in Internal Suspension continue to complete work aligned with the mainstream curriculum.
  • Liaise with faculties to provide access to curriculum-aligned work for pupils in Internal Suspension.
  • Develop systems to monitor and track pupils’ behaviour, attitude, and learning in the ARC and Internal Suspension.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupils’ progress and next steps.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in providing pastoral and holistic support to students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain discipline and manage challenging behaviour.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably within a school.
  • Understanding of restorative and reflective practices.

Preferred

  • Experience with Internal Suspension or Alternative Provision.
  • Familiarity with restorative justice and student reintegration strategies.
  • Experience with ICT tools to support learning.
  • Experience working with the Inclusion Faculty or Alternative Provision teams.
