Residential Caretaker needed to maintain a safe and well-presented school environment.

The Opportunity:

As a Residential Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the school’s environment, ensuring it is safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all. This position requires a proactive individual with practical skills and a strong work ethic, who can contribute to the upkeep of a large and diverse school site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the school premises in a clean, safe, and well-presented condition.
  • Carry out daily portering duties and assist with the movement of people and goods around the school.
  • Conduct statutory health and safety checks and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels of supplies and manage inventory effectively.
  • Work with contractors during school holidays to complete maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Operate specialist equipment and perform manual handling tasks as required.
  • Act as a positive role model for students and contribute to safeguarding and welfare procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong practical and DIY skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and students.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
  • Willingness to undertake physically demanding work and manual handling tasks.
  • Flexibility to work a 36-hour week, 52 weeks per year.

Preferred

  • Previous experience working in a school or similar environment.
  • Experience with health and safety procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating specialist maintenance equipment.
  • Experience in safeguarding and working with young people.
