The Opportunity:
As a Residential Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the school’s environment, ensuring it is safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all. This position requires a proactive individual with practical skills and a strong work ethic, who can contribute to the upkeep of a large and diverse school site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the school premises in a clean, safe, and well-presented condition.
- Carry out daily portering duties and assist with the movement of people and goods around the school.
- Conduct statutory health and safety checks and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Monitor stock levels of supplies and manage inventory effectively.
- Work with contractors during school holidays to complete maintenance and improvement projects.
- Operate specialist equipment and perform manual handling tasks as required.
- Act as a positive role model for students and contribute to safeguarding and welfare procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong practical and DIY skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and students.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
- Willingness to undertake physically demanding work and manual handling tasks.
- Flexibility to work a 36-hour week, 52 weeks per year.
Preferred
- Previous experience working in a school or similar environment.
- Experience with health and safety procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of operating specialist maintenance equipment.
- Experience in safeguarding and working with young people.
