The Opportunity:

As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining the school’s buildings and grounds, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is essential in supporting the school’s mission to provide a high-quality education and a positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the fabric, fixtures, and services of the school’s buildings and grounds.
  • Support site security by opening and securing the premises as required.
  • Test and ensure the functionality of alarm and surveillance systems.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and minor repairs across the school estate.
  • Work collaboratively with the Facilities Manager and contractors to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with general cleaning and upkeep of school areas.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the school’s facilities in line with strategic plans.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Previous experience working within a team environment and alongside contractors.
  • Strong handyman skills and practical ability to carry out maintenance and repair tasks.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety requirements, cleaning methods, and emergency procedures.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks as required.

Preferred

  • A trade qualification, particularly in plumbing or electrical work.
  • Experience in a similar role within an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of building management systems and facilities maintenance.
