The Opportunity:

As a School Counsellor, you will support students in navigating complex emotional and social challenges, promoting mental health and wellbeing. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people within a supportive and inspiring educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counselling to students using a range of therapeutic approaches.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support students’ emotional and academic needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote emotional health, resilience, and coping skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of student progress and interventions.
  • Deliver workshops and sessions on topics such as stress management, relationships, and personal development.
  • Work closely with the school’s pastoral team to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to student wellbeing.
  • Support students through challenging life events and transitions.
  • Stay up to date with current research and best practices in school counselling.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Counselling, or a relevant qualification in a counselling-related field.
  • Experience of working within a school environment.
  • Well-developed counselling skills gained through education and practical experience.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with external agencies and professionals.
  • A strong understanding of the key issues affecting young people today.
  • The ability to promote emotional health and wellbeing.
  • Excellent IT skills and strong record-keeping abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience with art and play therapy.
  • Experience in a co-educational setting.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support programmes.
  • Experience with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
