The Opportunity:
A Science Technician - Biology and Chemistry is needed to support the Biology and Chemistry departments in maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment. This role is essential to ensuring that students and staff have access to well-maintained facilities and equipment, contributing directly to the quality of science education delivered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the promotion and observance of a healthy and safe working environment in the laboratory.
- Maintain laboratories, storerooms, and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order through routine and non-routine checks, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing, and repair.
- Provide technical advice and support to teaching staff in the classroom.
- Collaborate with the Senior Science Technician to ensure consistent standards across departments.
- Assist with the preparation of practical lessons and resources for students.
- Keep accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory practices and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience working in a laboratory or similar environment, preferably in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
Preferred
- Experience in a school or educational setting.
- Knowledge of biology and chemistry laboratory practices.
- Experience with the maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment.
- Experience working with students and teaching staff in a school environment.
