The Opportunity:

A Science Technician - Biology and Chemistry is needed to support the Biology and Chemistry departments in maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment. This role is essential to ensuring that students and staff have access to well-maintained facilities and equipment, contributing directly to the quality of science education delivered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the promotion and observance of a healthy and safe working environment in the laboratory.
  • Maintain laboratories, storerooms, and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order through routine and non-routine checks, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing, and repair.
  • Provide technical advice and support to teaching staff in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Science Technician to ensure consistent standards across departments.
  • Assist with the preparation of practical lessons and resources for students.
  • Keep accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory practices and safety protocols.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working in a laboratory or similar environment, preferably in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of biology and chemistry laboratory practices.
  • Experience with the maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment.
  • Experience working with students and teaching staff in a school environment.
