The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Science Technician for maternity cover, to support the science department in delivering high-quality student learning. This role requires a self-motivated and flexible individual who can adapt to the dynamic needs of the department. The successful candidate will be a key member of a strong and supportive team, working in excellent facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain science equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and ready for use.
  • Prepare and set up laboratory resources for lessons, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
  • Support teachers in delivering practical science lessons and experiments.
  • Assist in the storage, organisation, and ordering of laboratory consumables and materials.
  • Monitor and report on the condition of equipment and recommend replacements where necessary.
  • Collaborate with the science department to ensure all experiments and activities align with the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and any incidents.
  • Provide a safe and stimulating environment for students to engage in science learning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum of Grade 4 (Grade C) or equivalent in English Language and Maths.
  • A background in science or relevant experience.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • A “can do” attitude and willingness to take on challenging tasks.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of science curriculum requirements.
  • Experience with laboratory safety procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
