The Opportunity:

As a Secondary SENCO, you will lead and support students with special educational needs and those requiring English as an Additional Language (EAL) support. This role is vital in ensuring inclusive, high-quality education for all students, and plays a key part in shaping a supportive and empowering learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of teachers providing support for students with special educational needs and EAL learners.
  • Assess special educational needs and English proficiency levels at the point of admission and recommend appropriate support.
  • Collaborate with the counselling and safeguarding teams to ensure student well-being.
  • Oversee quality teaching and learning practices in EAL and SEN support through planning, observations, and drop-ins.
  • Deliver staff CPD and parent workshops focused on SEN and EAL strategies.
  • Liaise with external agencies such as educational psychologists and language specialists.
  • Maintain confidentiality and build trust with students, parents, and staff.
  • Coordinate with the Primary CSU department to ensure smooth student transitions into secondary.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised teaching qualification and at least 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team of educators.
  • Strong understanding of special educational needs and EAL support frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • International teaching experience.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
  • Familiarity with IGCSE and National Curriculum of England.
