The Opportunity:
As a Secondary SENCO, you will lead and support students with special educational needs and those requiring English as an Additional Language (EAL) support. This role is vital in ensuring inclusive, high-quality education for all students, and plays a key part in shaping a supportive and empowering learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of teachers providing support for students with special educational needs and EAL learners.
- Assess special educational needs and English proficiency levels at the point of admission and recommend appropriate support.
- Collaborate with the counselling and safeguarding teams to ensure student well-being.
- Oversee quality teaching and learning practices in EAL and SEN support through planning, observations, and drop-ins.
- Deliver staff CPD and parent workshops focused on SEN and EAL strategies.
- Liaise with external agencies such as educational psychologists and language specialists.
- Maintain confidentiality and build trust with students, parents, and staff.
- Coordinate with the Primary CSU department to ensure smooth student transitions into secondary.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Recognised teaching qualification and at least 5 years of teaching experience.
- Experience in managing and leading a team of educators.
- Strong understanding of special educational needs and EAL support frameworks.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Preferred
- International teaching experience.
- Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
- Familiarity with IGCSE and National Curriculum of England.
