The Opportunity:

As a SEN Cover Supervisor / Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will deliver pre-planned lessons, assist with classroom management, and provide targeted support to pupils. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on student progress and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cover lessons when a teacher is unavailable, delivering sessions in line with the Class Teacher’s planning.
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and cover classes across Key Stages 3 & 4 in the absence of teachers.
  • Support teachers in preparing resources, planning activities, and delivering a stimulating and inclusive curriculum.
  • Maintain a positive, well-managed classroom environment using behaviour strategies aligned with school policy.
  • Provide support to pupils individually, in small groups or whole-class settings, promoting independent learning.
  • Assist students struggling with set work and ensure all pupils stay focused on meeting lesson objectives.
  • Contribute to the tracking and monitoring of pupil progress, providing verbal and written feedback to staff.
  • Deliver literacy and numeracy interventions and support whole-school programmes to raise attainment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant experience in teaching or learning support, ideally within a SEN setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum requirements for Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Experience in managing and supporting pupils with complex needs, including autism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Experience in delivering literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Familiarity with behaviour management strategies in a school setting.
  • Experience in supporting pupils with individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
