The Opportunity:

As a SEN Teacher KS1 KS2, you will deliver a functional, adapted curriculum tailored to the needs of children with complex social communication needs. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to support students in developing essential life skills and independence in a low arousal, highly therapeutic setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a functional, adapted curriculum tailored to the needs of children with complex social communication needs.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to support students' academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Create and implement schemes of work that focus on building foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
  • Use symbolised communication systems (AAC) to support language and learning in the classroom.
  • Assess and support challenging behaviours in a nurturing environment.
  • Promote positive behaviour and build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain a communication-friendly environment aligned with the SCERTS framework.
  • Support students in developing independence and emotional well-being through a structured, meaningful timetable of activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience of delivering KS1 / KS2 curriculum, including foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent English skills, with strong written and spoken communication abilities.
  • Experience working with children with Special Education Needs, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum.
  • The ability to manage a small group of children with social communication needs.
  • The ability to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with the Equals Curriculum or similar adapted curriculums.
  • Experience with the SCERTS framework.
  • Experience assessing and supporting challenging behaviours.
  • Experience with symbolised communication systems (AAC).
