The Opportunity:

As a SEND Senior Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex learning needs and disabilities. This is a key position in a dynamic, supportive team that prioritizes student wellbeing, independence, and academic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with severe, multiple, and complex learning difficulties and/or disabilities through individualized learning and care.
  • Assist with physical support, including pushing wheelchairs, hoisting, and positioning students safely.
  • Provide emotional support and build positive, trusting relationships with students and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Support students with personal care and self-care procedures with dignity and respect.
  • Promote independence and self-regulation in students through structured learning and therapeutic approaches.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times, following safeguarding and health and safety protocols.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities in a classroom or support setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide physical support and follow manual handling and safety procedures.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple campuses and adapt to changing environments.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant or support worker in a special needs setting.
  • Knowledge of self-regulation and therapeutic approaches to support student learning and behaviour.
  • Experience with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive education practices.
  • First aid or manual handling training.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on NJC, Grade 5-6, Point 12-20.
  • 36 hours per week across 5 days, with term-time plus one week contract.
